The short version
- We use one cookie to remember your consent choice. Without it, we'd have to ask you again on every page.
- If — and only if — you accept analytics, we load Google Analytics 4, which sets a small number of additional cookies. They're listed below.
- We don't run advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, session-replay trackers, or A/B testing tools on this site.
- You can change your mind any time — clear cookies in your browser, or use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer once it's live (Phase H of our website build — coming soon).
What we set, in detail
Strictly necessary
| Cookie | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
leanseo_consent | Remembers your cookie-banner choice (accept / reject / partial) so we don't ask again on every page. First-party, same-site. | 6 months |
Analytics — only after you accept
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful, which ones aren't, and roughly how many people end up on the waitlist. We've configured GA4 to anonymise IP addresses and we've disabled Google Signals (no cross-device tracking or ad personalisation). The data is processed in the EU.
| Cookie | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes one visitor from another (anonymous ID). | 2 years |
_ga_<container-id> | Persists session state for the GA4 property. The placeholder resolves to a single random ID tied to our analytics account. | 2 years |
_gid | Distinguishes returning visitors within a 24-hour window. Used rarely by GA4; some configurations set it. | 24 hours |
What we do NOT set
- No advertising or retargeting cookies (no Meta Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight, no Google Ads remarketing).
- No session-replay or heatmap cookies (no Hotjar, no FullStory).
- No third-party live-chat widgets (no Intercom, no Drift, no Crisp).
- No A/B testing or personalisation cookies.
How to opt out
- Reject in our banner. The cookie banner gives you “Reject all” as a first-class option, equal in size to “Accept all.”
- Change your mind later. Clear cookies for leanseo.app in your browser, and the banner will reappear on your next visit.
- Block at the browser level. All major browsers let you block third-party cookies or all cookies. Firefox's “Total Cookie Protection” and Safari's “Prevent cross-site tracking” both neutralise GA4 tracking out of the box.
- Install Google's opt-out add-on. Available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout — blocks GA across every site you visit.
Why we use any analytics at all
We're a small team and we'd rather invest a week in a page people read than a week in a page that gets one visit a month. GA4 tells us which is which. We don't use it to build profiles, sell audiences, or anything else.
If our analytics ever change — new tool, new cookies, anything — we update this page first and bump the “Last updated” date.
